Synopsis :

Edward II (Steven Waddington), monarque follement épris de son giton Gaveston (Andrew Tiernan), s'aliène la cour et sous la contrainte bannit son amant. Ourdi par son épouse et Mortimer (Nigel Terry), chef des armées, un complot rappelle Gaveston pour mieux l'assassiner, semer la guerre civile et triompher du roi, quitte à jeter contre lui son propre frère. Isabella, la reine (Tilda Swinton) et Mortimer célèbrent leur victoire sur sa dépouille : le fer rouge est prêt pour empaler Edward.
